Display Window

A site-specific installation at the Design Museum of Chicago that reframes the existing glass atrium as a shop window, supported by the Chicago Architectural Club’s Emerging Visions Award and UIC Dean’s Professional Development Prize, on view April 11 - April 30, 2023

Display Window explores the qualities of a virtual and physical shop window in the everyday. The installation reframes the existing glass façade of the museum as a single aperture. Veiled layers produce a moiré, like static interference on a screen, and drape across the gallery’s triangular atrium, concealing the museum interior. Positioned inside the building envelope, this backdrop outlines a room that belongs to the street. Accessible from day to night, the installation’s material nuance interacts with visitors and their perception of the city around them.
